If you’re like me, you worry about the toxins in your home and everyday products. Chemicals and endocrine disrupters such as “phthalates” are hidden. These are found in nearly every other product, candles, cleaning products, and such. It can seem impossible to avoid, however here are a few low toxicity self care items to aid you in your journey to a safer home.

Avocado Green Pillow

Great quality sleep is one of the BEST forms of self care. Of course, pillows play an important role. Conventional pillows are typically made with synthetic foam and fabrics that may have been treated with chemicals such as flame retardants, phthalates, and formaldehyde. Skip the toxic chemicals and look for the Avocado Green Pillow fillings that are GOLS and GOTS certified.

Grow Fragrance Candles

There are a few things to look out for when choosing a “low tox” candle. Opt for coconut or plant-based wax. Paraffin has been found to create a soot that can have a negative effect on the lungs. Also look for “phthalate free” as this is a hormone disrupting chemical. To be on the safe side, choose a candle that is 100% essential oils, rather than fragrance, which can potentially contain even more chemicals! Grow Fragrance Candles checks all of the “low tox” boxes!

Young Living Essential Oils and Diffuser

Toss out the old glade plug-ins and grab a diffuser and essential oils. Essential oils are plant-based fragrances. This makes them a safer way to fill the home with pleasant scents without simultaneously filling with toxins. These Young Living essential oils and diffusers are a great choice.  Lavender oil in particular has been found to have calm, relaxing properties to help you get into zen.

Buff City Shower Fizzies & Bath Bombs

Buff City is not just a bath and body store, but also a place of entertainment. They allow you to watch them make all of their products in the actual store, with all natural ingredients! There are several highly unique scents to choose from, with fun names such as “All Hail the Queen” (my personal favorite). Shower fizzies or bath bombs are a great way to relax and unwind after a long day. Thy even make a eucalyptus based shower fizzy for headaches called “Hey Headache.”

Stainless Steel Tea Infuser

Not all tea brands and bags are made equal! Many can contain harmful plastics in the tea bags. The safest bet is steeping your own loose leaves of tea with a  stainless steel infuser! While you can find these in many places, we happen to love (and have ourselves) this extra fine stainless steel tea infuser from Red Stick Spice in Baton Rouge.

While it’s nearly impossible to avoid ALL toxins at ALL cost, we hope this list of low toxicity self care items raises your awareness of the toxins in everyday items, and guides you to explore more options for living a “low tox” lifestyle.
