Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need a doctor's order to work with The Unconventional Dietitian?

In most cases a doctor’s order is not necessary.

The only time a doctor’s order is needed before your initial appointment is if you have Medicare insurance. If a doctor’s order is needed, The Unconventional Dietitian’s support team will contact your doctor’s office to request the order.

How much does it cost to work with Daphne or the team?

In most cases the team will bill your medical insurance for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for preventative treatment. If you have MNT coverage there may be no cost to you out of pocket. However, depending on your insurance plan you may have to pay a co-pay or may have to meet your deductible before coverage for MNT begins.

If we are not able to bill your insurance the cost for appointments is $299 for a bundle of 3 appointments; or $149 for initial appointment and $99 or follow-ups.

Do you accept Medicare insurance?

Yes. Daphne and the team are Medicare providers. However, Medicare coverage only applies for someone who is diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease. If you do not have a medical diagnosis for diabetes (unfortunately prediabetes does not count) or kidney disease Medicare will not cover medical nutrition therapy (MNT).

How many appointments do I need?

Since everyone is unique and their needs are unique the number of appointments varies from person to person. We see the best results by working with a dietitian every 2-3 weeks in the beginning. However, we will schedule based on your specific case.

What can I expect once I make an appointment?

If you are scheduling online, you can request an appointment time. Before the appointment is confirmed, my support team (named LWell) will call you to get more detailed information including more details about your goals and your insurance information. Additionally, we request that you complete the forms emailed to you and a 3 day food journal before your first appointment. It is not until this information is complete that your requested appointment will be confirmed.

*Please note, LWell is located in Virginia (not Louisiana) and they will be calling you from a 757 area code.

If you are referred by your doctor the LWell team will call you once the doctor’s referral is received to complete the information needed before the first appointment.

Who is LWell and how are they affiliated with The Unconventional Dietitian?

LWell is the incredible support team that works with The Unconventional Dietitian. They will complete all scheduling (and rescheduling as needed) and billing for your work with The Unconventional Dietitian. They work from Virginia, thus they have a 757 area code when calling you by phone, so be on the lookout.
